A three dimensional finite element analysis was completed for the
analysis and redesign of a silicon seal. J-Integral calculations
were completed to estimate the fracture toughness of the original design.
A new design of the seal was created and a new finite element model created.
The J-Integral calculations on the new design indicated an improvement of
a factor of 8 times more durable for the new seal geometry.
The new design was implemented into the medical machine and performance
was found to be a favorable improvement over the original design.
